Boko Haram kills 21 persons on Yobe highway

No fewer than 21 persons have been killed by men in military camouflage, who are suspected to be Boko Haram insurgents, in Yobe State.
The 21 persons, according to a local vigilante source, had been residing in Damaturu, having fled when their communities were captured by the insurgents.
It was learnt that the victims decided to go to their communities on Saturday to get some foodstuffs from their silos on the belief that their places  had been totally liberated and safe.
The displaced persons were said to be from Lazarawa, Ngirbua, Maram and Garin Kuyama in Yobe State.
A source claimed that the victims went to get foodstuffs in a convoy of vehicles but were intercepted and killed in Bultaram village on their way back to Damaturu.
“They opened fire on all of them. We believe they cannot be soldiers but insurgents dressed in military camouflage,” he said.
He revealed that the bodies had not been buried as the people were awaiting clearance from the military authorities operating in the area.
One of the indigenes of the area, who spoke to our correspondent in Damaturu on Monday, said, “We all received the good news that military had taken over the place. That is why they went.”
The councillor, representing Ngirbua, Malam Baba Nuhu, told journalists in Damaturu that they had reported the incident to security agencies.
“I don’t know whether they contacted the security agencies before embarking on the journey. Seventeen of those killed were from Lazarawa; two from Ngirbua; one from Maram and one from Garim Kuyama,” he added.
