The police have arraigned 28-year-old Adekunle Damilare and his colleague, Christian Aaron, 35, for allegedly stealing 600 bags of rice.
The rice, which was said to be worth N6.9m, belonged to one Solaja Ibilola of JMK Food Nigeria Ltd.
The incident happened at the Daleko Market in the Iyana Isolo area of Lagos State.
The men were arraigned on two counts of stealing.
The charges read in part, “That you, Adekunle Damilare, Christian Aaron, and others now at large, on the same date, time and place in the aforementioned magisterial district, did steal 600 bags of rice, valued at N6.9m, property of Mrs. Solaja Ibilola of JMK Food Nigeria Ltd., and thereby committed an offence punishable under Section 285 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2011.”
The defendants pleaded not guilty .
Their counsel, Stephen Molo, while urging the court to admit them to bail in liberal terms, said the defendants had spent five months in detention, while the second defendant had paid N2m to the police.
The magistrate, Mrs. F.F. George, admitted the defendants to bail in the sum of N500, 000 with two sureties each in like sum.
The case was adjourned till April 29, 2015.
