APC charges Reps-elect to shun extravagance, corruption

The All Progressives Congress has charged members of the House of Representatives, elected on its platform, to shun corruption and avoid extravagance.
National Chairman of the party, Chief John Odigie-Oyegun, gave the charge while addressing elected members of the APC to the House of Representatives in Abuja during a two-day retreat, on Tuesday.
According to him, as agents of change, each member is required to comport himself or herself in a manner that will reflect the letter and spirit of the change which the party campaigned and worked hard for.
He said while congratulating all of them on the success recorded during the elections, they must be reminded that the task ahead was not an easy one.
Odigie-Oyegun said, “This is because you are being called to service at one of the most challenging periods in the history of our nation.
“Our populace will begin to notice that ‘change’ is upon us when they notice from our personal life style and conduct a strong dislike for ostentation, an abhorrence for waste and zero tolerance for corruption.
“There is, therefore, an urgent and pressing need for fundamental reorientation of our attitudes and value system.
“This is the soft side of the national change agenda that will be pursued with relentless vigour when the fight against corruption and indiscipline by your incoming administration commences.
“Legislative action and the moral force of your personal example will be needed to underscore the seriousness and urgency of the moral reform agenda.”
Outgoing Speaker of the House of Representatives, Aminu Tambuwal, urged members of the House to avoid unnecessary bickering and conflict with the executive.
He stressed that it was important for them to work together with the executive to deliver quality service to the Nigerian people.
