Govt plans trauma centre on highway

The Kogi State Government is to establish a trauma centre along the Okene-Lokoja-Abuja highway to attend to accident victims.
The Deputy Governor of the state, Mr. Yomi Awoniyi, in a statement said the centre was meant to render immediate medical assistance to accident victims.
The News Agency of Nigeria reports that Awoniyi spoke during the visit of the new Sector Commander of the Federal Road Safety Corps in the state, Mr. Charles Abochi.
Awoniyi explained that the high incidence of motor accidents being recorded on daily basis on the road had made the establishment of the centre inevitable.
The deputy governor said the SURE-P Hospital at Osara would be converted and re-equipped to serve the purpose.
He attributed the incessant accidents on the road to disregard for traffic laws and bad habit of drivers, urging the new sector commander to reverse the trend.
Awoniyi promised that the state government would support the FRSC to reduce road crashes.
Abochi expressed concern over the alarming rate of accidents on the Okene-Lokoja-Abuja highway.
He said some new licensing offices would be opened in the state.
