Mr. Segun Adewale
The Peoples Democratic Party candidate for the Lagos-West senatorial district election, Mr. Segun Adewale, says he has evidence to show that he won the election in which Mr. Solomon Adeola of the All Progressives Congress was declared the winner.
Adewale, who is popularly known as Aeroland, said this while speaking with journalists in Lagos on Wednesday.
He said Adeola, otherwise known as Yayi, did not win the election but that the Independent National Electoral Commission went ahead to declare him the winner.
He said, “It is clear that I won. There are 10 local governments in our senatorial district and I won election in eight local governments but Yayi was declared the winner. As I speak to you, I have the Certified True Copy of the result that shows that I won.
“I scored above 372,000 votes, Yayi scored, I think 292,000 or so but his original result was altered and Yayi was given 428,000 literally and Yayi was returned elected. I have gone to the Lagos State Election Petitons Tribunal but as I speak to you now, I’ve been frustrated by INEC. It seems they are working with the APC.
“The essential result that we need, the CTC for all the local governments that we need in court I can’t get it. We called INEC, we have petitioned them on several occasions but INEC says that it is the local government Electoral Officers that are with the documents. My time is limited and the case might be thrown out if we do not respond on time.”
Adewale alleged that the APC’s plan was to turn Nigeria into a one-party state. He said the APC was still scheming to upturn the victory of the few PDP members that won elections in Lagos.
He said what made the election less credible in Lagos-West was the fact that manual accreditation was done in most of the polling units on election day and incident forms were used which were not sent to the national headquarters of INEC in Abuja.
He said, “The problem we had in my senatorial district during the presidential and National Assembly elections was that over 50 per cent of voters were accredited manually and did not use the card reader machine.
“So, majority of the documents are here and not in Abuja. We have written to INEC but they always tell us stories. There was one time we wrote and they asked us to come and when we got there; they made copies of the result of governorship election for us instead of the senatorial results.”
When contacted on the telephone, the Lagos State Resident Electoral Commissioner, Mr. Akin Orebiyi, said he could not discuss matters relating to the elections as the matter was in court.
“It will be sub judice for me to speak on a matter that is in court,” he said.
An aide to Adeola, Mr. Kayode Odunaro, said there was no need reacting to Adewale’s allegations because they were baseless.
He added, “The matter is in court and Adewale should have faith in the judiciary instead of making baseless accusations.”
