Kwara residents apprehend suspected ritual killer

Residents of Ita-Amodu community, Ilorin, Kwara State, have apprehended a suspected ritual killer, identified simply as Kelechi.
The PUNCH learnt on Tuesday that the 32-year-old suspect was caught on Mejindadi Street.
He was accused of trying to use a yet-to-be-identified elderly woman for ritual purpose when he was apprehended by members of the community surveillance team.
A witness said Kelechi had kidnapped the woman at the Agbabiaka area, and kept her in a hideout on Unity Road, Ilorin.
He said the vigilance team swooped on the suspect when he was attempting to take his victim to an herbalist popularly called Alfa Buaya.
He said, “We saw the suspect backing an old woman around 11.30pm on Sunday. He was tired and we tried to assist him. And then we asked him what happened to the woman because she looked emaciated. We thought he was taking her to a hospital around Oja-Iya.

“He started responding in pidgin while the woman was just muttering ‘Agbabiaka’, a place around Ago Market. It was in that process of interrogating him that we discovered his real intention.
“A police patrol team came around and we handed him over to the police.”
The witness said while in the vehicle, the group began to prod the suspect for information.
“He said if we could assist him, he was ready to cooperate.
“He then confessed that he was actually taking the old woman to one cleric called Alfa Buaya around Agbo-Oba so that he could help him use her for ritual purpose for him to be wealthy.”
Our correspondent gathered that the suspects and the victim were taken to the Area B division of the state police command.
The Police Public Relations Officer, Mr. Okesanmi Ajayi confirmed the incident, adding that investigation was ongoing.
