QUEEN ELIZABETH IS NOT DEAD, DESPITE BBC'S FALSE TWEETS
The world went into a panic on Wednesday (June 3) after a tweet sent out by aBBC journalist said thatQueen Elizabethhad died (she is very much alive).
BBC broadcast journalistAhmen Khawajatweeted, “BREAKING:
Queen Elizabeth is being treated at King Edward 7th Hospital in London. Statement due shortly: @BBC World.”
A short time later, she added, “‘Queen Elizabeth has died’: @BBCWorld.”The palace immediately shot down these rumors: “This was a routine pre-scheduled appointment. The queen has now left [the] hospital and carries on with her engagements.”
The BBC later offered an explanation as to what happened. “During a technical rehearsal for an obituary, tweets were mistakenly sent from the account of a BBCjournalist,” the statement read.
“The tweets were swiftly deleted and we apologize for any offense.”
