Saraki, Aregbesola call for prayers, holy living at Ramadan

Dr Bukola Saraki
The Senate President, Bukola Saraki, Governor Rauf Aregbesola of Osun State and the Deputy Senate President, Ike Ekweremadu, have congratulated Muslim faithful on the commencement of the Ramadan fast and urged them to remain holy and prayerful throughout the period.
They stated this in separate statements on Thursday. They said the period of fasting, a period of sober reflection, must be seen by all Muslims as an opportunity to ask for the divine intervention of the Almighty in the affairs of the country.
The Senate President said, “Specifically, we must pray for Allah’s guidance in our quest to rebuild Nigeria under this new administration.
“As we pray for God’s mercies over our lives in this season, we must remember that Ramadan is one of the pillars of Islam, and as such, we must use this period to seek the face of Allah for all our troubles.

“As we do this, we must also remember to be of exemplary conduct at all times, as holiness is key to maximizing the spiritual and physical benefits of the Holy Month.”
He urged Muslims to pray for President Muhammadu Buhari, whose efforts to seek lasting partnerships would move Nigeria forward.
He also tasked Islamic scholars and teachers to be guarded in their utterances during the fasting period and beyond.
Also, Aregbesola has called on Muslims to pray for the state during the Ramadan period and for Nigeria to overcome the financial crisis which is having negative effects on many public workers
The governor said this in a Ramadan message sent to Muslims in Osogbo on Thursday by his media aide, Mr. Semiu Okanlawon.
The Speaker of the Osun State House of Assembly, Mr. Najeem Salam, also called on Nigerians to pray for the country to overcome the numerous challenges facing it.
The Speaker said, “We have reached a point in our nation where only prayer and concerted efforts are required to lift up our challenges. The reason is that our challenges are multi-dimensional, ranging from corruption and economic meltdown to man’s inhumanity to man.”
Aregbesola expressed the optimism that the current economic hardship facing Nigeria would be a thing of the past with prayers of Nigerians and the commitment of the leaders towards good governance.
The governor’s statement read in part, “This is a month designed by Allah to open the door of mercy, favour and forgiveness for His creatures.
“We should seize this opportunity to pray for the country and our state to overcome all the socio-economic and political problems facing it.
“Our dear state is also going through a harrowing economic situation. But I wish to assure our workers that this economic hardship has near its end and our fortune will return.
“We ask our workers to exercise little patience as we find lasting solution to the problem of unpaid salaries.”
