In pursuit of its philanthropic objectives, a non-governmental organisation, Twelve Relief Society, has inaugurated 12 toilet units donated to the Wesley Primary School, Oshodi.
The modern toilet facility, which was presented to the school management on Wednesday, had a borehole and two urinals attached. The project was the brainchild of the female wing of the TRS and it was inaugurated by Chie Debo Omotosho, the president of the organisation.
Speaking at the event, the President of the female wing, Chief Mrs. Abiodun Aluko, urged the school authority to ensure proper use and maintenance of the facility.
Aluko said the construction of the facility, which started in 2013, was made possible with the assistance from the larger TRS society, made up of husbands of the members of the female wing.
“At a critical point when we ran out of fund, we approached the TRS for help. As our loyal, worthy and reliable husbands, they did not fail us. Fund was made available with which the project was completed. On behalf of the entire members of the female wing, I say a big thank you to all the members of the TRS,’’ she said.
Appreciating members of the society, a former head teacher of the Wesley Primary School, Mrs. Grace Adetuberu, prayed that God would replenish them.
“None of you has a child here but you have touched the lives of these pupils. I was about to retire when this project started and I remember that pupils used to march faeces on the floor of the old toilet. For what you have done, God will favour you in every area of your lives. God will beautify your lives as you have beautified ours,’’ she said.
In his goodwill message, the Chairman of the Nigerian Union of Teachers, Oshodi/Isolo branch, Comrade Adams Salau, commended the organisation for being disciplined and committed to addressing needs in the education sector.
While saying such efforts would go a long way in making the education sector great again, Salau urged the TRS to also consider building a befitting staff room for teachers in the school.
“People talk about corruption but the challenge we have is actually indiscipline. If you were given an opportunity and you were not disciplined then nothing good can come out of it. Why is the standard of education falling? Is it the society or the standard of education that is not sitting right? If we want to witness any change, we have to be disciplined. Government cannot do it alone, private participation is needed,’’ he said.
