God, not strategy can curb corruption – Cleric

The State Pastor of the Deeper Life Christian Ministry in Osun State, Pastor John Adeniran, has said the widespread corrupt practices in Nigeria cannot be tackled successfully without God’s assistance.
Adeniran said this at a press conference held on Saturday to herald the visit of the General Superintendent of the church, Pastor William Kumuyi, to many towns in Osun State starting from July 22.
Kumuyi, according to him, will start the crusade from Ikire and would visit Ejigbo, Ile Ife, Ede and Ilesa as part of his efforts to further propagate the gospel in the state.
The cleric stated that looting of public treasury by public office holders could not be said to be caused by lack of means of livelihood but lack of contentment and greed.
He said, “There are some people who are employed and some are holding public offices yet they are corrupt. Can one say those ones are corrupt because they do not have means of livelihood? No, they are corrupt because they lack contentment.
“They want to steal to have more; to oppress the poor because they are not godly. Except they turn their hearts to God to change them, they will continue in their ungodliness. If God does not deal with a man’s heart, this problem will continue.”
Adeniran added that man’s refusal to submit to God was responsible for involvement of some in kidnapping, ritual killing, insincerity and numerous other ungodly acts.
He said political leaders in the country were making efforts to educate children and to create employment but their efforts might not be good enough to turn around the situation in the country except God bestowed wisdom to be successful on them.
