Suspected smuggler attacks customs officer with petrol bomb

AN official of the Nigerian Customs Service (NCS), Seme Customs Command, Mr G.M. Olonitola, has been attacked with petrol bomb by a suspected smuggler while performing his duties.

According to findings, the customs officer had stopped the vehicle driven by the suspected smuggler for search, bu unknowing to him, the suspected smuggler had petrol bomb hidden in one of his trousers pockets.

As soon as the suspected smuggler parked for the customs officer to check the vehicle, the suspected smuggler left the place, apparently to look for a matchbox to light the petrol bomb in his pocket.

An eyewitness at the scene of the incident told Tribune Online, “the suspected smuggler suddenly appeared with the lit petrol bomb in his hands. He then threw it at Olonitola and the bomb hit him.

“It took the effort of nearby customs officials who heard Olonitola’s scream to run after the suspected smuggler and shoot him.”

Olonitola is currently recuperating at a medical facility in Ikeja, Lagos State, while the suspected smuggler is said to be in a medical detention facility.
