US records second-highest June temperature in 121 years

The average temperature in June in the US was the second-highest since record-keeping began 121 years ago, US climate officials said on Thursday.
The average temperature was 21.9 centigrade, which is 1.6 degrees more than the historical average for the month of June.
According to the National Centers for Environmental Information, the average temperature for June in the US was higher only once before in 1933.
According to the centre, which is part of the National Oceanic and Atomospheric Administration, the warmest June worldwide was in 2014.
It said the average temperature over land and ocean surfaced was 16.2 degrees centigrade.
